A rare English all steel, two pillar, open frame Twigg II corkscrew. This design was granted a patent No. 2,851 on the 10th of October 1867 to George Twigg, of Birmingham, in the County of Warwick. It was also granted an American patent on the 21st of January 1868, No. 73,677 becoming the first British corkscrew to be patented in the USA. This example is marked “G. TWIGG’S PATENT ENGLAND OCT 10 1867” on one side of the frame and “G. TWIGG’S PATENT U.S. AMERICA JAN 21 1868” on the other. Perfect Helical worm. Circa 1870.
