A rare German open framed steel corkscrew by Valentin Rasch of Zella St. Blasii- a historic German town in Thuringia, famous as a major centre for metalworking. This example is marked “D.R.P” on one side of the frame and “20803” on the other side. The DRP stands for Deutsches Reichspatent (Patented in the German Empire). This was Valentin Rasch’s German Patent No. 20,803 granted on the 14th of March 1882. The handle turns to penetrate the cork and then pivots down on the anti-friction rollers acting as a fulcrum and removing the cork. Perfect centre cut worm. Circa 1885.
