A rare and magnificent brass “Thomason” corkscrew with a turned bone handle incorporating a dusting brush and hanging ring. This design is known as the “Harvest barrel” or “Autumnal Fruits” and is not often seen. This was based on Edward Thomason’s patent taken out in 1802, the Thomason VIII. The patent application stated that the corkscrew can be turned continually to the right whereby the cork is penetrated and then drawn from the bottle. Once out the handle is reversed and the cork is ejected from the perfect helical worm without having to touch or handle it. Circa 1810.
