An English open frame two pillar corkscrew with a fixed wing nut handle. The threaded shaft passes through the open frame and is guided in the frame by a plate with slats cut into it. This aids in the easy removal of the cork. This example marked “B B WELLS” on one side of the base ring and “431 WEST ST STRAND” on the other. Benjamin Blake Wells was a maker and retailer of cutlery, razors, and dressing cases from 1850 to 1912. Perfect grooved helical worm. Circa 1860.
