South African ‘Sterling Silver’ presentation trowel for the laying of the corner stone of the Independent Order of Good Templar’s Bredashoop Lodge in Bredasdorp in June 1924.
The I.O.G.T (Independent Order of Good Templars) was a fraternal organization for temperance or total abstinence founded in the 19th century. It had a structure modeled on Freemasonry, using similar ritual and regalia. It admitted men and women equally and made no distinction by race.
Dimensions: 22.8 cm long by 6.7 cm blade width by 11.8 cm blade length.
Weight: 86 grams gross.
