Britania Standard silver is silver with a fineness of 95.84 percent – Sterling silver being 92.5 percent. Originally used in England from 1697 it was required until 1720 after which the Sterling Standard was restored. Since then Britania Standard silver became an option for silversmiths to use and has a different hallmark to Sterling silver denoting the higher purity.
