A straight pull corkscrew by William Gamble. This example marked ‘REGISTERED NO 41406 LEVER SHEFFIELD’ above a wavy line on the shank. William Gamble (Sons), Manufacturer, 25 Brittain Street, Sheffield was granted a British Registered Design number 41406 on 19 January 1886. The two spikes would twist the cork once the worm was fully inserted thus breaking any bond that might exist between cork and bottle. Perfect helical worm. Circa 1887.
