An English Reformed Gothic brass mantle clock, the design attributed to Bruce Talbert. Bruce James Talbert (1838 – 1881) was a Scottish architect, interior designer and author who was one of the leading exponents of the Reformed Gothic style. Designs for this style of clock are illustrated in ‘The Illustrated Catalogue of Gothic & other Artistic Domestic Furniture, Fittings, Decorations, Upholstery & Metalwork’ published by Cox & Sons in 1872.
This was probably made by Cox & Co. or Hart, Son, Peard & Co. (1842-1913). The triangular brass body set with stone mounts. Old repairs evident to the finial. A similar designed clock can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
