Cape silver table snuff box dated 1855 by Willem Godfried Lotter (Junior), Active 1810- 1855. The son of Willem Godfried Lotter (Senior) and Wilhelmina Margaretha Wentzel. Married Susanna Johanna van Echten and later Maria Redelinghuis. Died on 11 December 1855 at Richmond. The engraving reads: “’H.J. Hofmeyre, aan Zynen Zoon J.C Hofmeyre’, 8 Mei 1855”. ‘H.J. Hofmeyre (Snr) (1798-1866). JC Hofmeyre his son was born on the 18th of May 1826 and died on the 17th of February 1898. This snuff box was a gift from the father to his son on the occasion of his 29th birthday in 1855.
