Dimensions: 29 cm high by 59, 5 cm long.
Sidney Yates Johnson was an English artist who was born in London and later moved to Canterbury, eventually settling in Sheerness, Kent. His exact dates of birth and death are unrecorded but his exhibition period ran from 1880-1926. He was a painter of landscapes, animal scenes and seascapes. His landscape views portrayed celebrated views across the British Isles, while a large proportion of his seascapes and coastal scenes depict well-known locations throughout Yorkshire and Kent.
The majority of his works are signed with his trademark incised “sgraffito” technique, in which he scratches his name into the wet paint of his canvases.
