Marked straight pull corkscrew with stag antler handle. Polished steel baluster shaped stem ending in a ‘Henshall button’ the underside of which is cut with fluting. Samuel Henshall patented a button in England in 1795, its purpose to compress and turn the cork once the worm was fully inserted, thus breaking any bond that might exist between cork and bottle. This example is marked R. Jones on the stem. Perfect helical worm. Circa 1890. (Provenance: Frank Ellis Collection 2012)
