A rare German steel open frame corkscrew with side rack. The wood handle connects to a free turning shaft that passes through the frame and is attached to a racking shaft. Once the perfect centre cut bladed worm has penetrated the cork, the flat steel side wind raising handle pulls the cork from the bottle. This example is marked “J. A. HENCKELS” along with their ‘double men’ trademark on the shaft. This design was shown in the Henckels catalogue at the end of the 19th century. Circa 1900.
