A rare English direct pressure corkscrew named the “PRESTO”. This type of corkscrew relies on a speed worm of steep pitch. This is first released by the button on the handle and pulled out completely and then pushed directly into the cork. Once in the brass tube locks into place and the cork can be withdrawn. This example is marked “CHAS HULL’ PATENT PRESTO CORKSCREW” on the brass plate on the handle. This was made by Charles Hull of Birmingham but was never patented in England. Circa 1870.
