A marked example of Edwin Wolverson’s ‘Signet’ corkscrew. This example marked ‘THE SIGNET’ on one side of the handle and has a diamond registration mark on the other. This was a British Registered design number 297635 granted on 14 January 1876 to Edwin Wolverson, 131, 5 Gt. Hampton St., Birmingham. This design allowed one to have direct grip with the finger in the centre of the handle without the hindrance of the shaft. Perfect helical worm. Circa 1880. (Provenance: Frank Ellis Collection 2014)
