English straight pull corkscrew where the handle is in the form of a champagne cork which is marked “Dry Monopol” and “Patent No. 7431”. Further marked on the shank “7431 McBride’s Patent”. This patent was taken out by Hugh McBride of Claremont Road, Lemington Spa, Warwickshire, England on 19th May 1888 No. 7431. The patent covered the angular edge found on the tip of the bladed worm which was used to facilitate the opening of champagne where the cork was secured by wire. The pointed end with angular edge helped break the wire fastener. Circa 1890.
