Rare Cape Gold hairpin by Johannes Hendricus Beyleveld, circa 1814- 1827 (The first recorded by this maker) Cape Gold hairpins are rare with only four other gold examples recorded. One is in the Koopmans De Wet Collection. Two examples by Jacobus Johannes Vos are pictured in ‘A History of Cape Silver 1700-1870’ by David Heller on page 207 and the fourth gold version by Peter Clarke Daniel was sold by The Old Corkscrew.
