Late 19th century English brass ‘Standard Bushel’ Measure by Potter, Poultry, London. Three proof marks struck to the rim, one being a crown over V, which is referred to as the Queen’s, or Sovereign’s Cypher. The V is for Queen Victoria who ruled from 1837 until 1901.

A French all-steel single lever corkscrew marked “Traifor BTE SGDG FRET M.M.DEP.” on both sides of the frame. This is Arsene -Jean Grandfils French patent No 951,926, August 6, 1947. The handle incorporates a cap lifter. Perfect centre cut worm. Circa 1950.
A German chrome plated open frame corkscrew. This is known as the ‘Ideal Glocke’ and is marked “JDEAL” on the handle and “4444” on the top of the shaft. Otto Voigt of Lübeck was granted a German registration for this on January 26 1895. To withdraw the cork, the screw on the end of the handle is unscrewed and the handle will rotate down the shaft drawing the cork from the bottle. Perfect centre cut bladed worm. Circa 1900.

An English brass Whelan type corkscrew. This unmarked example is an early copy of the Whelan design which was patented in 1881 and made in steel. The perfect centre cut worm is screwed into the cork by turning the whole implement and then the cork is removed by pulling up the three-finger sliding eyebrow shaped handle. Circa 1900.

This is an unmarked variant of the 1899 German Registered Design of Jul. A. Bader Zangenfabrik of Zella-Mehlis. Circa 1910.
A magnificent and rare single lever cam action corkscrew known as the ‘Royal Club’. This example is the Hull IV with rollers. It is marked “C HULL PATENTEE BIRMINGHAM ROYAL CLUB CORKSCREW”. Hull patented the ‘Royal Club Corkscrew’ on 26 February 1864 No. 480. Perfect helical worm. Circa 1875.
An Austrian Rohac cast brass patinated corkscrew in the form of a stylised cat where the tail is the perfect centre cut bladed worm. This example is marked “RR MADE IN AUSTRIA” under the front feet. This was made by Richard Rohac, Circa 1955.
